            LAGUNA ARABILLA, VOLCAN ISLUGA⁣
⁣
🏘 Visita a Colchane⁣
Recomendado 😉⁣

On June 22, 2019, in a series of unexpected blasts, the Raikoke Volcano in the Kurl Islands ended its 90 year dormancy streak – erupting a vast plume of ash and volcanic gases from its 700-meter-wide crater. Astronauts aboard the International Space Station (@iss) captured this spectacular moment. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Several of our NASA Earth satellites also observed the event, gathering data that helps us understand how eruptions interact with our climate and affect aviation. Dive into the details by visiting the link in our bio.⁣⁣

Photo by @simonnorfolkstudio I Karymsky (Карымская in Russian) is a stratovolcano and crater lake on the Kamchatka Peninsula, here photographed in winter. Karymsky is the most active volcano in the region and has been erupting continuously since a powerful earthquake struck the region in January 1996. The initial eruptions projected an estimated 30 to 40 million tons of pyroclastic material, saturated with acidic fluids, into the air, turning the nearby freshwater lake into a toxic chemical soup and decimating its ecosystem. Scientists are monitoring the volcano closely, and despite the ecological catastrophe, Karymsky Lake is slowly recovering to pre-1996 conditions.

Photos by Matthieu Paley @paleyphoto | In the heat of the Balochistan desert (Pakistan), Hindu pilgrims climb the steep flanks of a mud volcano to throw coconuts into the crater—a ritual intended to thank the gods and makes wishes. The trek up to the rim of Chandragup mud volcano is one of the first rituals of the Hinglaj pilgrimage. Swipe right for an aerial view of the cold mud crater. On assignment for @natgeo. Arenal Volcano 🇨🇷 。
Although currently in a resting phase, Arenal remained the country's most active volcano for the past 43 years. Its storied history is charged with eruptions — both major and minor — that have intimately affected the region and the people who live here. 🌋🌿
