Photo by Ken Geiger @kengeiger | Here, one might say that "simba" translates as "caution, speed bump ahead." But of course simba means "lion" in Swahili. This guy, after spending most of the day feasting on a kudu, decided to take his evening nap in the middle of the road. Speed limits in Kruger National Park are low, making wildlife safety the priority over tourist vehicles.

Photo by Ken Geiger @KenGeiger | This clan of hyenas was literally playing an intimidating game of keep-away with what was probably dinner the night before. About eight cubs and juveniles took turns racing around this waterhole with a spinal column dangling from their mouths. It was quite a sight to watch the larger juveniles, who could have easily dominated, allow the small cubs to catch up and try to wrestle the bone away. The clan that plays together, stays together.

Photo by Ken Geiger @KenGeiger | When you are close enough to count the whiskers on a leopard's face, even with a 600mm lens, you are probably close enough. This beautiful male leopard was lounging in a tree, enjoying the shade and an impala it had killed the previous day. Once a leopard has treed its prey, it can take about two days for a full grown impala to be consumed.

Photo by @KenGeiger | Beware the wrath of an angry leopard! Fortunately for me, this outburst was a warning to a hyena getting a bit too close to the impala on which the leopard was dining. This image was made from inside an economy rental car—Kruger National Park, South Africa, is a great place to treat yourself to an inexpensive self-drive safari.

Photograph by David Chancellor @chancellordavid | Sleeping bull elephant, Eastern Cape, South Africa. This is from my work on the sedation of elephants; when administered, a new and delicate combination of drugs allows an elephant to gently slip into a deep, calm sleep, but the important thing is it sleeps on its feet—thus reducing the possibility of all manner of eventualities should it collapse, as often happens. This bull elephant is being worked on while he gently dozes, but it’s always possible that unexpected stimulation will wake a sedated animal. I'm privileged to witness the care and attention those who work with these precious creatures exhibit when intervention is the only alternative.

Photo by David Chancellor @chancellordavid | In the Eastern Cape, South Africa, a bull elephant is helped to its feet by rangers after a veterinary team carried out a procedure to lance two cysts high on its shoulders. This is without a doubt one of the largest bulls I’ve ever seen. Relatively habituated, he lives along side two other bulls, that were waiting and watching, along with a ranger, for him to return to the herd. Once the elephant was back on his feet, all three bulls charged towards each other, trumpeted, and then spent the next 30 minutes gently exploring the body of the recovering dominant bull with their trunks, demonstrating the extraordinary bond that elephants have with each other. To see more of the amazing work of wildlife vets follow me here @chancellordavid. @thephotosociety @everydayextinction

Photo by Mattias A. Klum @mattiasklumofficial | A giraffe in Thanda, South Africa. Few animals lend themselves so perfectly to silhouettes or simply as a "sense of place" ingredient. In the 1980s, the number of giraffes in Africa was estimated at more than 155,000 individuals. Today the Giraffe Conservation Foundation estimates the current Africa-wide giraffe population is about 110,000 individuals. This is a drop by about 30 percent. Please go to @mattiasklumofficial for more images and conservation stories from our work around the world.

Photo by David Chancellor @chancellordavid | This is a nyala, one of my favorite and without a doubt one of the most beautiful antelopes found in southern Africa. It belongs to the bovid family and inhabits both dry savanna and dense woodland. It prefers areas that provide a permanent supply of water and fresh grass. Habitat loss, lack of food (due to competition with domestic livestock), and viral diseases are major threats to their survival in the wild. However, they are currently thriving. This young guy is dozing gently on the camouflaged forest floor; young males are camouflaged by their color, which resembles a female's pattern. This protects them from the aggressive behavior of a dominant male. To see more follow me @chancellordavid

Photo by @KenGeiger | It's time for breakfast! Backlit by the early morning sun, a southern yellow-billed hornbill snags a grasshopper for a snack. If you are self-driving in Kruger National Park, be alert to the hornbills hunting insects along the edge of the road. The area where grass meets asphalt is prime insect-foraging territory for the hornbill—which makes them easy to photograph from a car window. Sadly, during my week in Kruger, I saw several hornbills that lost battles with car bumpers. Slow down—enjoy the view.

THE BEER BRUH

MY CHINA @oldpottersinn it's Friday!! First try at a RICE LAGER and not bad in the least bit. Also always enjoying learning new things about beer, such as 10% of the malt bill was replaced by rice and that not many beers are made in the manner in South Africa. This lager definitely perfect for the Cape Town summer. This lager came about through a Collab between @oldpottersinn and @threewisemonkeys and I thank you for that. It is a touch on the dry side with a lovely carbonation , but it does have that refreshing after taste with a delightful light amber colour note. Well this rice lager is also National Beer Trophy winner! Cheers to the Weekend bruh!! #thebeerbruh #oldpottersinn #threewisemonkeys #mychina #ricelager #friday #summer #greyton #craftbeersnob #craftbeers #craftlager #craftbeerpics #beertography #beerreview #beerlove #BeerMe #beerlabels #beerbeerbeer #capetown #southafrica #thirsty #weekendvibes

Ethnicities In Africa (Check the source for detailed map image)

Sub-Saharan African contains many of the most ethnically diverse countries on Earth, including the two most diverse: Uganda and Liberia. And the above map certainly suggests enormous ethnic diversity across western and central Africa. And remember the size of Africa. These small bubbles are not small villages, but Nations. And most of these people are related. Where are you from?
