Birthday eves are always the worst for me. I always wonder did I do enough to savor all of the moments this year brought. This past year with her has been one of THE BEST years of my life. The heart of our family was born. She has brought us all so much closer and changed us all in a way I never thought possible. I never knew that we could love each other more than we did, or be happier than we were before we had her. I always thought we had it all and felt so lucky and blessed. But this girl brought even more joy. We are thankful for this little beauty. Her personality is so big it barely fits inside of her. She smiles at everyone and brings warmth to all the hearts. I am going to FLOOD everyone's social media tomorrow so be prepared.

photo by 2boysママ with description ・ 12月10日は月に1回の外来の日。 最近はご機嫌でミルクもゴクゴク飲むし、 在宅酸素の出番もあまり無かったので、 いつもの外来と思って行ったら、まさかの緊急入院😭 SpO2が70代前半で、このまま家に帰すのは〜って。 いつもと変わらない様子だっただけにビックリです。 寝てる時はいいけど起きるとSpO2が下がるので、 昨日の夜は鎮静剤で眠らせて気管挿管して呼吸サポートを したそうです。 ・ いろんな同意書にサインして、そこには合併症とか マイナスなことばかり書いてあって、私の気持ちが 追いついてません。 ・ 帰ったら寝てるはずの布団にりょうちゃんがいない…。 洋服についた匂いを嗅いで泣く😭😭 お兄ちゃんの無邪気さに泣く😭😭😭 ついこの前ハーフバースデーのお祝いしたのに…。 ・ まだ先だと思ってた入院や検査、手術がいきなり 目の前に迫ってきて、気持ちが追いついてません。 挫けそうです。折れそうです。ただ祈ることしか 出来ないけど、今日は笑顔で会いに行ってきます😊😊 ・ さっき電話があって、心カテはせずに、シャント術の ような姑息手術をする事になりました。 午後から主人と説明を聞いてきます👂 あー、今日も泣く😭😭😭 ・

photo by Milo with description Milo gets routine bloodwork done every 6 months just to keep an eye on things. His thyroid levels came back flagged during his last testing. It's common for kids with Down syndrome to have thyroid issues, so it wasn't necessarily a huge concern, but his levels had always been pretty consistent. He had woken up with a cold that next morning after the blood was drawn so we wondered if that could have affected the results. I took him to the endocrinologist yesterday to have additional bloodwork done, and the results came back today within that normal range. We have to have it rechecked again in 6 months, then if all goes well, we don't have to see the endocrinologist anymore. We have been extremely fortunate that Milo hasn't had any major health concerns. Obviously taking thyroid medication isn't the worst thing in the world, but I'll admit, the thought of him starting medication at a young age really bummed me out. So, fingers crossed his levels stay within range. 🤞🤞 On another note, don't assume that just because a person has Down syndrome means they are weak. There had to be 2 nurses to hold him down to take his blood. They kept commenting on his strength. He's the sweetest little guy, but if you try to get him to do something that he doesn't want to do, he will legit fight you! And he'll probably win! 🤣

This week Flick starts her first dance class EVER! I’m excited and nervous. (Swipe to see the back of her leotard, it’s gorgeous). I asked some experienced moms if I should inform the instructor Flick has Ds. In response I got: “for what? And “just show up”. I loved those responses and it was my first thought, but I second guessed myself. So we will just show up. She will either love it, or like with music therapy (loves music, hated music therapy). Bad mom days are the worst days. We are always hard on ourselves, but I’m talking about the real tough days. The days when you cry so hard you can’t breathe, in fact you’ve probably spent most of the day trying to catch your breath. The day when your fuse is short. When your patience never showed up that morning. The days when you feel like you don’t spend enough time with your children/you don’t get anytime to yourself. The day when you’re yelling and in the middle of yelling feel immediately guilty for doing so. When you just need a reset. When you need a friend. When you need a break. I have those days too. Days when I question myself about everything. No one wants to publicly talk about these days because it’s when we are at our most vulnerable and fear of being judged, but if we did, maybe just maybe we would stop judging and start connecting. You are an amazing parent, a wonderful person, and it’s okay to have a bad day. Reach out to your friends to vent, write about it, cry about it. I’ve heard the saying “crying won’t make it clean” but sometimes it’s the cleanse we can all use. Finally waiting on discharge papers to leave the hospital. Noah has a slight case of pneumonia so doctors feel with antibiotics, he should be able to fight this infection at home. I know Thanksgiving is on Thursday but today I give thanks for progress. Progress because a year ago, a slight pneumonia would've kept us in the hospital for almost a month. I asked the doctors if he could be around family and they said yes so if he feels better, we will be able to spend Thanksgiving as planned. Despite his progress, I don't take anything for granted. If I over react its because I want to give Noah the best chance at anything that may come his way.
