            Tied up in a bow. ♥️ Four variations of bow pose - similar but different - and all big heart openers - a recurring theme for me. Heart openers require mobility in the shoulders, hips and spine. These variations are all examples of passive stretching - pulling to create the stretch. You can see the flexibility happening with the pull - in my shoulders in the upper left and right versions, the spine and hip flexors in all four variations. 
The flexibility allows me to get into these deep bends, but it’s my mobility that keeps my joints safe and healthy (I apologize for sounding a bit like a broken record here, but I’m very passionate about this subject). I do mobility drills for my hips, shoulders and spine that strengthen my joints while increasing my range of motion. Injury prevention, healing, a deeper, stronger physical practice. 
I’ve teamed up with the @themobilitymanifesto to create an online program with over 50 drills supporting mobility, stability and strength in the hips, shoulders and spine.             Same same but different. ♥️ All are variations of forearm wheel - a deep heart opener. They vary in intensity, but all require mobility in the hips, shoulders and spine. A strong core is also essential to support the low back. Deep heart opening poses or backbends can feel amazing if done in a way that’s safe in the body. Otherwise they can feel pretty miserable - compressing the low spine, causing nausea and headaches even. 
I’m often asked advice on how to improve backbends and my answer is always the same. Focus on strengthening the transverse abdominis and work on mobility in the frontal hips, shoulders and spine. That’s helpful to a degree, but I realized I can’t teach hip, shoulder and spine mobility (controlled range of motion) in a regular class - at least not to the depth that I’d like to.

Limiting factors: •Lack of strength in the upper body •Lack of flexibility in the shoulders •Lack if flexibility in the psoas muscles •Lack of strength in the hamstrings and glutes •Weakness of the adductors will splay the knees open Lets work on the following: #backstrength #shoulderflexibilty #tricepstrength (to help push up) #WristFlexibilty #quads/Psoas Flexibilty . If you find pushing up into wheel a challenge and the elbows and knees splay out to the sides use a strap to help wrap the elbows and knees in as you come up. En #yoga, muchas veces al abrir nuestro corazón estamos inclinados hacia atrás como si fuera una reverencia al pasado, al lugar de donde venimos. Si prestamos atención tenemos una parte de nuestro cuerpo bien plantada en el suelo, en el presente, y otra parte del cuerpo haciendo contrapeso moviéndonos hacia adelante, hacia donde vamos. No soy experta en yoga y sé que muchos acá aún no lo practican en cuanto a asanas -posturas-, pero el yoga más importante lo practicamos en la vida. Hoy que se unen Venus y Mercurio retrógrado, agradece el pasado que te trajo hasta acá. Abre tu corazón principalmente para contigo, ábrete a ti mismo y plántate firme en el presente. Lo que pasó, pasó y te trajo acá. Abre tu corazón también a lo que viene. Una vez que podemos ser agradecidos con el pasado podemos tomar lo que nos dio, soltar los residuos, hacer espacio y tener disposición abierta a lo que viene. Y sí, la manera más típica de interpretar esta alineación sería “tener una vez más una conversación, pero ahora desde otra perspectiva”, sin embargo, creo que lo más hermoso que puede regalarnos es entendernos a nosotros mismos de otra manera, soltar la culpa y la pena gracias a un entendimiento que va más allá de la mente racional. Esto nos prepara para la belleza de mes que tenemos en frente, el mes Leo. Otra cosa: recuerda que esto lo sientes tú y también lo siente el otro. Be kind! Así como tú te estás abriendo, los otros también. Si bien no podemos ponernos en una misión de darle lecciones a otros o hacer el trabajo por ellos, sí podemos permitir y hacer espacio para que se sientan seguros mientras están trabajando esto, así como tú. In this #yogapose, the front is opening as the back body is engaging. In this insta-tutorial, I'm going to show you what muscles I need to be using in my back body as well as how to use them. #2 If you've been wondering what is the key to strong backbends, let me fill you in! It's all about the glutes 🍑 The glutes in #backbends are a big question in #yoga and a lot of yogis reach out to me to ask whether they should use them or not in this pose. Yes, you have to use them but we're not using them to externally rotate the femurs. We want to keep the femurs in a neutral position, which will in turn help you engage the right muslces in the right way. If you want to see what I'm talking about, tune in to this quick tutorial. Trap Release [Gym Edition💪] - This one is a doozie and as in doozie I mean it hurts real good! #betterthanyesterday Strength and athleticism was something that always eluded me growing up. I never made a competitive team growing up, which kept me in house league sports my entire childhood. Football, hockey, baseball, you name it, I sucked at it. When I turned 15 I started learning martial arts and how to fight, that’s when my life changed. Effort started to feel like it was something that was only between me and me and no one else. I became obbessed with my own progress, waking up at 4am to run sprints during the cold Canadian winter mornings, throwing 1000 kicks a day on my heavy bag downstairs, staying in the weight room, sweating and bleeding everyday in the gym. I woke up each day with such immense focus. Transitioning into Acro from MMA I started slow, I was battling a very serious depression that kept me down for years. I tried using the same fuel that brought my through fighting but it never carried me the same way again. I had to change my mind set, change for the way my body operated after a life time of injuries gained for 7 years of fighting. I found a new way to grow and stay hungry. When transitioning from one era of my life to another, I found I could no longer use the same fuel, it had all burned out a long time ago. Instead I remembered all the techniques I used to stay motivated, the way I spoke to myself, the way I believed in myself and understanding that sometimes the journey can fucking suck. But it’s all apart of the journey to endure the shitty times so you can fully enjoy the best moments of all of it. Be better than yesterday.
