            UNIX. Профессиональное программирование. 3-е изд. (2018)

            Hamburg, Germany "A Black Hole For Internet Ads and Tracking Services"

Hello to all my wonderful followers. 🙌
Sorry, I’ve been quite busy the last few months and haven’t been able to give much time to instagram.

Here's an interesting project that I implemented last night at home 😎
__
The internet is a scary place. Dot-com businesses track you to 'improve' the ads they can push at you, and cybercriminals are trying to scam you and steal your data. Pi-hole is a network-wide ad-blocker that can improve your internet experience by blocking advertising, tracking and even malware.
__
I do not have a problem with internet advertising in general. As far as I understand, many new business models rely on digital advertising revenue. However, I do have a problem with: ▪️Pop-up and pop-under ads that hi-jack my internet browsing experience;
▪️Ads which follow me around on all my devices, because I searched for a related product 3 days ago on my phone;
▪️Ads which track my location and profile me;
▪️Ads which tell me I have won bogus prizes;
▪️Ads which claim all the 'moms' in my area (by geolocating my IP)

ℹAdvertisements in the Hackers’ Toolset

Beside legitimate ads, there is also malware advertisings known as (malvertising). These are malicious ads which are pushed out via legitimate ad network partners. They are: ▪️Ads pretending to be error messages and ask you to call a 'tech support' number.
▪️Ads trying to get you to install fake software updates such as Adobe Flash.
▪️Ads pretending to be operating system messages telling you that you have a virus.
▪️Ads with bogus warnings about Adobe Flash being infected with a virus (yes, seriously). Then, in addition to everything listed above you have actual viruses, malware and crypto lockers, phishing attacks and cybercriminals.

            You can never have too many machines running with Linux. ;) On my Macbook I have Linux running in a Virtualmachine. This semester I only need it for a Machine Learning assignment, because I couldnt bother fixing a Python module problem on Macos.^^
.
We had 3 hours of Machine Learning lecture today which was a bit of an information overload for me. :D We learned about Neural Networks and had a look at some code, processing and classifying images. Our teacher showed us Tensorflow and Keras, which we will use in our assignments.
.
What have you been doing this week? Have a nice day. :)

Thus I'll be able to control and navigate MateBot without having to code every single move. That's perfect for testing and debugging. The Game Controller already works with Ubuntu, let's see if I can use it in ROS with the joy_node. .

            Last night, I did some coding, because I needed a break from writing the AI Search algorithm blog. I made some progress and it feels good to checkin code that builds. This weekend I definitely want to have functionality done and have it unit tested! 💪🤓 Even for a small(er) project I like to use version control! It makes life a lot easier when you have to revert mistakes etc.

Do you guys just version control for your own projects? Drop it in the comments below!

repost @stedtechnologies

            I use Arch on my kindle btw...🙈
As I said here's the post about why and how I got Arch on my Kindle 🙃
Let's start with "why", that's easier 😁: I like my kindle but I don't like the fact that I'm not supposed to do what I want with it. I really, really want to have full control over the devices I own and that means that I want to be able to install the things I want on them. So that's why I use jailbreaks. And Arch...well, I was too lazy for Gentoo 🙃
How?
Disclaimer: this is not meant as detailed instructions, just some tips, if you break your kindle (and you can break it when trying those things) it's not my fault 😉
(1. Draw a pentagram on the floor, light some candles and summon some demons to help you 😈)
2. Install a jailbreak. Google "kindle jailbreak" for detailed information about the correct version of your kindle's firmware and the jailbreak (spoiler: it's not possible for all firmware versions). Install an application launcher (KUAL) and a terminal (kterm).
2. Get Arch ready:
2.1. First create a blank file (size depends on how much space you have on your kindle) For example: dd if=/dev/zero of=arch.ext3 bs=1M count=1280
2.2. Create a file system (for exampe mkfs.ext3 arch.ext3)
2.3. Mount it (for example mount -o loop -t ext3 arch.ext3 /mnt/arch)
2.4. My kindle uses armv7 cortex-a8, get the right Arch version on archlinuxarm.org and extract it where you mounted your arch.ext3 file (or whatever you called it)
2.5. chroot (I recommend arch-chroot here) into your new system and do all the necessary stuff like pacman -Syu, generate locales and so on...Exit and unmount when you're done.
3. Get the arm executable of PRoot. Copy it together with your arch.ext3 to your kindle. Create a mount point on your kindle. Mount arch.ext3 there and proot into your new system.
That's it 🙃
As I mentioned, those are just some tips, you'll probably need to figure some stuff out and get a bit hacky, have fun 😊😊 (oh, and remember to say goodbye to the demons you summoned before...) .

            Hello! I tried a new IDE today, Intellij IDEA. Normally you have to pay for it, but students can get it for free. I used Netbeans before and my first impressions from Intellij are good, its very user friendly and runs fast. Give it a try, if you can get it for free, too. :)
.
Also I continued working on the REST API for our project and implemented a password encryption/decription in Spring Boot. Next I need to transform my prototype into the real one, matching it to the actual data. What are you doing this weekend? Hope you are well. :)

Yet another status update on #archlinux installation on my #thinkpad x230. 🎯 Need to figure out the font for firefox, I am currently using the same font for both terminal and i3 but it doesnt really work well in the web. 🌎 I posted in a story about the status bar made with bash which I'm really happy about, I need to use it on my other computers too. ⚫ Other than that, I think it's pretty much highly usable, I could do some gold platting like installing a gdm so I dont have to type sway after logging in, and having a splash screen for the crypt password. 👩‍🚀 How's your day? .. .. #Repost @gil.codes #Ubuntu #arch #archlinux #linux #opensource #operatingsystem #password #hardware #software
