I love my clients! During a postpartum visit we had discussed the benefits of babywearing and different ways that dads can bond with baby and help mom out.....Two days later I got a text with this picture! Dad had amazon primed this carrier and was starting to practice!! Doesn’t he look great? #thebirthpartner #doula #orangecountydoula #makebirthgreatagain #birthdoula #postpartumdoula #love #baby #mama #birth #family #support #pregancy #motherhood #family #dad #parenthood #laboranddelivery #doulasofnorthamerica #motherhood #longdistancedoula #skintoskinbonding #father

“In the wild, when a mama elephant is giving birth, all the other female elephants in the herd back around her in formation. They close ranks so that the delivering mama can not be seen in the middle. . [...] They send a clear signal to predators that if they want to attack their friend while she is vulnerable, they’ll have to get through 40 tons of female aggression. When the baby elephant is delivered, the sister elephants do two things: they kick dirt or sand over the newborn to protect its fragile skin from the sun, and then they all start trumpeting, a female celebration of new life and sisterhood. . [...] This is what we do, girls. When our sisters are vulnerable, when they are giving birth to new life, new ideas, new ministeries, when they are under attack, when they need their people to surround them so they can create, deliver, heal, recover...we get into formation. We close ranks and literally have each other’s backs. . [...] And when delivery comes, when new life makes its entrance, when healing finally begins, when the night has passed and our sister is ready to rise back up, we sound our trumpets because we saw it through together. We celebrate! We cheer! [...] We give thanks.” . Paul said, “Put on, therefore, as the elect of God [...] charity, which is the bond of perfectness.” (Col 3:14) . Put on love. Our society so frequently associates loves with a thoughtless, impulsive action. But we must consciously put love on. . And that love is the “perfect bond of unity.” (NASB translation) Love is what brings us together. Love is what allows us to see needs. Love is what gets us into formation. Love is what allows us to support when others are down. And love is what brings us to celebrate when they get back up. As Jen said, “Get into formation, ladies.” Or, as Paul says, “stand fast in one spirit.” (Phil 1:27) . We are that “elect of God” Paul was talking about, and we must choose every day to put on love and act like it. Painting by @caitlin_connolly_ Words by @jenhatmaker & @comefollowmedaily

“With pregnancy, women are so vulnerable, and then you add labor on top of that, you need someone to be there to advocate and encourage you,” -Lucinda Canty New @WNPR article about the need to expand doula services to improve childbirth outcomes. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 If support in motherhood looked like this. FELT like this. Each rung of the ladder able to be surmounted, because another person is there, at each challenging moment, to offer support, encouragement, and wisdom. Banding together to help, to progress, to unite. All while gently repeating: 'you can, you can, you can' Can you imagine? We can.💜 | Image @monicagarwood #doula #thebirthpartner #orangecountydoula #birth #momcommunity #expecting #postpartum #postpartumjourney #newmom #newbaby #momlife #Mothering #thisismotherhood #makebirthgreatagain #birthdoula #postpartumdoula #love #baby #support #pregancy #laboranddelivery #motherhood #orangecountydoula #orangecounty #newportbeach #lagunabeach #sanclemente #huntingtonbeach #santaana #irvine

“My doula was Asia Rikard, who was the best! ❤️ She shared her snacks with me while I was able to still eat, had great conversations, listening to music, and she stood by my side helping me find comfort through the pain, even when I pretty much gave up! Forever grateful for your love and support during that time of my labor and delivery, thank you.”-Catherine

1 hour post delivery. 😍 What a privilege to stand by one of my best friends while she brought her first baby into world. Such a labor of love for sweet Mila Jay.

Yes they do......Postpartum doulas connect parents to community resources and evidence-based research to help them make the right choices for their family and new baby when it comes to all things infant care. And who doesn’t love 5 day old snuggles???

This is something that has always so fascinating to me •Repost from @hellomytribe "This is so amazing. Did you know that your grandmother carried part of you inside her womb? But how? Well, a female fetus is born with all the eggs she will ever have in her lifetime. So when your Grandmother was carrying your Mother in her womb, you were a tiny egg in your Mother's ovaries. The three of you have been connected for a very long time. Women are amazing!" • #ig_motherhood #momcommunity #motherhoodunplugged #motherhoodthroughinstagram #pregnancy #unitedinmotherhood #uniteinmotherhood #honestlymothering #dailyparenting #honestmotherhood #memoirsofmotherhood #expecting #postpartum #takebackpostpartum #postpartumjourney #postpartumdepression #motherhood #realmotherhood #newmom #newbaby #momlife #mentalhealth #postpartumanxiety #womenshealth #Mothering #honestmom #motherhoodintheraw #motherhooduncensored #thisismotherhood #babybump

I love catching up with old friends and meeting new babies! Something I have been thinking about is how important it is for new moms to have other new mom friends while they navigate this new chapter. Did you know doulas can recommend new mom groups in your area?

“Good beginnings make a positive difference in the world, so it is worth our while to provide the best possible care for mothers and babies throughout this extraordinarily influential part of life.”-Ina May Gaskin I love what I do so much and am so proud of this mama for bringing her baby boy into the world this weekend. “Having a baby is a very real feat of physical endurance. You will want to remain fueled, hydrated, and energized to the best of your ability throughout labor, birth, and postpartum. Before you give birth try and assemble your support team, people to help keep your pantry, freezer, and fridge with items you need to keep yourself fortified during these important early days. This preparation is designed to be an anchor during those first few wobbly weeks. As you fumble through simple tasks, your brain fuzzy with exhaustion and your emotions ebbing and flowing from your newly unsettled hormones, when you forget to do simple, things like feed yourself, you have people there to catch you before you fall.” - The first forty days ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I love @wildbird’s feed so much! I want to repost everything they share. 🌸 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Sometimes we get given the opportunity to make a brave choice. A choice, to surrender the things that have been great, in exchange for greater. It’s here a soulful, lively, wholehearted boom-boom-heart out of the chest, tears on cheeks, I’m alive, kind of passion lives—it lives, just around the corner from surrenders bend. Currently sitting at a birth giving mama time to progress. Thinking of the baby shower I attended last weekend for this beautiful friend/client. 💕 I love hearing and reading women’s birth stories. Have you shared your birth story recently? What was most helpful? What surprised you?

I got to be this little one’s family’s postpartum doula back in November and was reunited this weekend with him and mama. Already back to best friends. Some of the duties that a postpartum doula will perform include:⠀ ● Breastfeeding support⠀ ● Help with the emotional and physical recovery after birth⠀ ● Light housekeeping so that mom does not feel so overwhelmed. ● Assistance with newborn care such as diapering, bathing, feeding and comforting ● Light meal preparation⠀ ● Baby soothing techniques⠀ ● Letting mom rest/shower ●Sibling transition ● Referrals to local resources such as parenting classes, pediatricians, pelvic floor therapists, lactation support, and support groups.

“A doula spots your moment of fear and reassures you in a way that is meaningful to you because she knows you — and you believe her because you know her. A doula helps you navigate a system that can be unfriendly to women and who understands exactly why you find pelvic exams triggering.....She'll breathe with you through each contraction and wipe the sweat off your forehead......My job as a doula is to walk alongside women and their families on the unique-yet-everyday journey in and out of childbirth: listening to them, holding their tea; their hands; their feelings. Reminding them that they matter.”

“When a cesarean birth is the way a baby comes into the world, a birth doula can be a critical member of the birth team, supporting the family prenatally, before, during and immediately after the birth and then at the postpartum visit. Doulas support all types of birth and can help families have a satisfying and positive cesarean birth experience.” -Sharon Muza Proud to be a @donaintl doula and grateful for the opportunity to support cesarean births! 🤰🏽🤱🏾💜 #thebirthpartner #doula #makebirthgreatagain #birthdoula #postpartumdoula #love #baby #mama #birth #family #support #texasdoula #pregancy #motherhood #family #laboranddelivery #cesareanawarenessmonth #cesareanbirth #doulasofnorthamerica #texasdoula #motherhood #advocate #education #breastfeeding

Okay! Let’s talk PELVIC FLOOR education! My eyes have been recently opened to the absolute value of pelvic floor physical therapy thanks to a personal experience of a client and listening an expert presentation by @ladybirdpt. It was explained to me like this: If you sprain your ankle or tear your acl, you go to physical therapy. Why then when a woman goes through childbirth and most likely experiences perineal tearing, do we have one postpartum visit with an OB 6 weeks after delivery and sent on our way? 🤯 Expecting? Just delivered? Had a baby 20 years ago? It is not too late. Leaky bladders, painful sex, sore backs? Reach out to a Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist. So much can come from a preventative visit. My favorite IG resource is @the.vagina.whisperer. She is hilarious and has a lot of good info! Comment below if you have ever seen a pelvic floor therapist! What was your experience like? *Stock photo to grab your attention. 😂 #thebirthpartner #doula #makebirthgreatagain #birthdoula #postpartumdoula #love #baby #mama #birth #family #support #texasdoula #pregancy #motherhood #family #laboranddelivery #doulasofnorthamerica #texasdoula #motherhood #advocate #education #pelvicfloorexercises #pelvicfloor

This morning I helped my last doula client for the year. I am taking a much needed five week break to rest and then will be jumping back in for 2019. Feeling so grateful for each family I have been able to serve and support this year. What an amazing year! I have to say I am truly humbled when I look back at my first year as a doula in Austin. Moving to a brand new city with the hopes of supporting families has been scary especially while managing another job but the Austin Birth Community has welcomed me with open arms and I feel so grateful for each and every family I have been able to serve. These numbers don’t even begin to measure the love and passion I have for my clients. Looking forward to a beautiful 2019! Do you have a birth plan? Making a birth plan isn’t to confirm that everything will go the way you want it to but what I see most often, is that it helps women know they have options. It begins the process of them understanding what is actually happening to their body during the labor process and what can affect it. They gather questions to ask their provider about at appointments. They start to see that there isn’t just one way to birth. #thebirthpartner #doula #makebirthgreatagain #birthdoula #postpartumdoula #love #baby #mama #birth #family #support #texasdoula #pregancy #motherhood #family #laboranddelivery #doulasofnorthamerica #texasdoula #motherhood

Words of affirmation can be a powerful tool in providing mamas with support and strength during birth and throughout postpartum. “You are doing such a good job!” “Just keep breathing!” “You can do this!” “Trust the process!” “Remember why you are doing this!” “You are so strong!” are just some of the empowering statements that can be used to reassure and ground mama during the difficult times. I have caught myself more times than once while verbally supporting a client, thinking about why I don’t say more things like this to myself on a daily basis! Empowering words go a long way! I invite all of you to remind yourself and others today that you are strong! That you are doing a good job and that you can do whatever is put in your path. Also- Shout out to my dear friend @taylortemaari for making this adorable artwork for me. 💕 #thebirthpartner #doula #makebirthgreatagain #birthdoula #postpartumdoula #love #baby #mama #birth #family #support #texasdoula #pregancy #motherhood #family #laboranddelivery #doulasofnorthamerica #texasdoula #motherhood

What is the double hip squeeze? The double hip squeeze is a form of pressure massage that has many uses during childbirth. It can: * relieve lower back pain * reposition a baby who is posterior; * reposition a baby who is slow to descend; and/or * reposition a baby whose head is not in an ideal position. Why does the hip squeeze work? A laboring mother’s pelvis is stretched by the pressure of the baby’s head bearing down. The baby can also put uncomfortable pressure on the sacrum. The hip squeeze pushes the pelvis back into a relaxed position,” which both “relieves the pressure of the stretch” and causes the “pelvis to flare out slightly, allowing the baby room to move around and down.” Source: Natural Life Mom #thebirthpartner #doula #makebirthgreatagain #birthdoula #postpartumdoula #love #baby #mama #birth #family #support #pregancy #motherhood #family #dad #parenthood #laboranddelivery #doulasofnorthamerica #texasdoula #motherhood #longdistancedoula #atxdoulas

“By definition, a doula is someone who provides support to a birthing mother, her partner, and her baby. This support isn't medical — we don't give exams or offer medical advice. We are not midwives or doctors. Our work is in caring for the practical and emotional needs of laboring women and their partners. We signpost to information. We advocate. We make nourishing food. We listen. We fill a role that women have filled for each other for millennia. This kind of non-judgmental, experienced support from a layperson can make a profound difference in the transition from individual to parent, and the research backs this up.” -Rebecca Schiller #thebirthpartner #doula #makebirthgreatagain #birthdoula #postpartumdoula #love #baby #mama #birth #family #support #texasdoula #pregancy #motherhood #family #laboranddelivery #doulasofnorthamerica #texasdoula #motherhood #advocate #education
