We’ve been riding between coffee plantations in quite many countries for now: Salento area in Colombia, Boquete in Panama, Orosi Valley in Costa Rica, Jinotega in Nicaragua and now Lenca villages in Honduras. As a coffee addict I can’t ask for more.
Whenever possible, I try local coffee but I still don’t know, where I’ve got the best, I have enjoyed them all (few exceptions).
Too bad that Jan doesn’t like coffee and has to wait for me while I smell and slurp and savor ☕️

Usually we don’t realize how much we use our senses to make decisions but this pine forest smelled so good that we just had to turn in and camp. Welcomed change to the jungles we have been traveling last months. Access road the same slippery clay as usual to this time of the year 😉 Nearest village was some kilometers away but our arrival was still detected, so we had a loyal night shift guardian. We could show our gratitude by sharing breakfast with her. —————— #panama #centralamerica #travelpanama #camping #aroundtheworld #mototravel #lifeontheroad #makelifearide #ilmaring #pineforest #dogs #guardians #LaYeguada #wildcamping

How to press two years on the road in one picture and one post?
Obviously it’s not always fun and easy and might get pretty uncomfortable but it has taught me that nothing is impossible. Being on this trip is manifesting that itself.
I’ve learned how to wash with 300 ml of water, I’ve crossed 100+ meters wide river inhabited with crocodiles (and dropped my bike there), I’ve been sharing life stories with a deaf-mute man, if to name just few things I wasn’t imagining myself doing before we took off.
I have not much fears left and there are much less “cannot do”-s on the table. I’ve learned to be here and now. I am grateful.
And good thing is - we are only at the halfway.

Think of Panama and you think of canal. There are couple of visitor centers to see canal closer but if possible we prefer experiences that are less directed. Here we wait with locals behind the gates for a monster ship to pass so we could cross the canal and feel the pressure of the water behind the locks just couple of meters from us. ———— #panamacanal #travel Panama #panama #centralamerica #newpartoftheworld #travel #adventureawaits #mototravel #aroundtheworld #lifeontheroad #overland #ilmaring #makelifearide

Quite often we choose instead of hiking just find another way to see the place. It’s not because we are so lazy (although that is the case sometimes😉) but rather because it’s a lot of hassle to leave the bikes and gear safely so we could take a walk. There are highest palm-trees of the world in Quindío area and people hike to Cocora Valley to see them. We couldn’t take our bikes there, so we listened the recommendations of local people and made our way from Toche to Salento through neighboring valley. Maybe it had been easier to take a walk this time but wax palms we saw, many of them! ——— #waxpalms #palmas #Toche #salento #cocoravalley #Colombia #travel #lifeontheroad #mototravel #tolima #quindio #aroundtheworld #ilmaring

We just love strolling around small villages and towns, walking their cobblestone streets, eating pies and drinking tinto (black coffee!) at the plazas. We are getting close to the north coast of South America and our time here will be over soon. We have enjoyed extraordinary landscapes, friendly people, some cool adventures and will miss it all very much. ——— #colorsofcolombia #guatape #villadeleyva #jardincolombia #Mompox #Colombia #mototravel #overland #aroundtheworld #tripofalifetime #lifeontheroad #colours #ilmaring #southamerica

Two notable things happened today and I got both on the picture: we crossed equator second time during our trip and are in the Northern Hemisphere again, and by happy coincidence we met our friend Jakrapong #captainmotorcycle2018 again - he did a wrong turn riding in the city and ran straight into us. It’s actually seventh time we see him after first time in Bangkok 14 months ago when he was just about to start his around the world trip. We had to choose between many kilometers on the road or only few if to take a shortcut. This consisted crossing the biggest river of Colombia - Rio Magdalena - and in addition some of its branches. For the sake of new experience we decided to take a shortcut. That was one hell of a ride! This tiny boat was like a nutshell on this mighty river😁 ——— #onlyformotorbikesandbikes #mototravel #riomagdalena #rivercrossing #lifeontheroad #magdalenariver #huila #newexperience #adventuretime #overland #ilmaring #villaviejahuila #aroundtheworld

Riding in narrow canyons is so much excitement! About one week before getting here I had a dream that from one corner in the place exactly like this I will ride into the emptiness, maybe just the river in my dream had more clear water. Back then I didn’t even know that we are going to see some cool canyons! ————— #notalldreamscometrue #canyon #canyondelpato #mototravel #travelperu #overlanding #ilmaring #womanwhoride #aroundtheworld #traveltheworld 📷2,4 @sol.revelations

Death road in Colombia was somewhat easier comparing to Bolivian one, although there was truck traffic and it rained most of the time. Maybe because there was no mud, only stones. But on this road something still died - Jan’s bikes generator, just before last river crossing. We changed batteries on our bikes and could continue to the next village. As we have already had problems with the generators on both bikes, we knew it was coming and had a spare part with us. Phew! This generator lasted appr 50 000 km. ——— #trampolindelamuerte #Colombia #deathroadcolombia #mototravel #rainandfog #shithappens #aroundtheworld #lifeontheroad #travelphotography #bmw800gs #bmw650gs #overland #womenwhoride #ilmaring

As it very often happens when you have a plan... We wanted to see Cordillera Vilcabamba but weather turned and we could see nothing. Instead, we could practice extremely slippery river crossings, riding in mud, fog and heavy rain. Honey, we need to talk.
—————
Thing is, our communication system Cardo Packtalk doesn’t function properly. Yes, we update the devices regularly, and then downgrade again, because new is worse. The distance of connection is just some meters and once the connection is lost, it doesn’t come back as it should when other rider is closer again. But hey, the system has been in everyday use for almost two years now, so I guess it’s normal.

So we do it like in old days and talk when we stop for a break. By that time I’ve forgotten half of the things I had to say. Well, maybe they weren’t important then. Sounds familiar😁?

Counting salt pools in Sacred Valley of the Incas.
More than 3000 shallow pools are dug into side of the mountain, filled with salty spring water and harvested after water has evaporated.
Pools are there from Inca times and are passed down from generation to generation. Each pool is owned by one family.

We happened to ride in the area when villages of Quebrada de Humahuaca region in Northeast Argentina celebrated their annual carnival. It’s not about which group is dancing the best samba, it’s asking Pachamama (Mother Earth) to be generous and give a good harvest. There is no sambodromo, Los Diablos (Satans), who represent fertility, are flowing over the mountains, and people are not sitting on the tribunes but just on the slopes and can participate in the dancings, singings and insane partying. #carnival #tilcara #susques #jujuy #quebradadehumahuaca #traditions #diablos #lifeontheroad #mototravel #aroundtheworld #womenwhoride #travelphotography #argentina #ilmaring #tripofalifetime

I had couple of bad days lately. Due to my absence of mind - or rather utter focus on road conditions - I lost some essential stuff, including camera, rain gear and emergency chocolate bar.
Rainy season in northern Andes is not over yet, so I found replacement for rain costume at workers market (why my mates smile every time I put it on🤔). It rains usually on afternoons, and although we prefer to camp, some days we would still like to spread out our wet stuff in some hostal room.
We tend to ride on smaller mountain roads, occasionally passing some tiny villages, and if we are lucky, we find some hospedaje to stay before it gets dark. These days they are often unattended but somebody at the next house or street has keys. Yay!

It’s fiesta time also here in Bolivia. In Tarabuco indigenous people from the surrounding countryside come to the traditional festival of Pujllay. They are celebrating independence from Spanish conquistadors but also making offerings to Pachamama to ensure the land is fertile as harvesting begins. #2in1 #pujllay #tarabuco #bolivia #festival #indigenous #traditions #Pachamama #pukara #offerings #quechua #yampara #IndependenceDay #travelbolivia #lifeontheroad #mototravel #travelphotography #makelifearide #tripofalifetime #ilmaring
