Today is my fathers first day in hospice. We are reconnecting with family and friends as much as possible while he still can communicate.

Early this morning my father shed his mortal coil with my mother and I at his side. This was my first experience of losing a very close loved one as well as holding someone through their last breath. My perception of reality has been altered.

My blood sugars have stabalized below 80. Most days I'm now between 70-76 which is where I like to be. It has been a struggle to get here as you can see from snapshots taken over the last two years. I am combining four strategies each day to achieve this: 1) eTRF - Early Time restricted Feeding. Stop eating by 3pm. 2) IF - 20:4 intermittent fasting window. 20 hours of fasting to four hours of eating. 3) OKL - Optimal Ketogenic Living - 120g daily protein based on my height. 4) NSC - No Significant Carbs. He approaches metabolism, fueling, training and recovery with fresh eyes based on data and less emphasis on historical practices. Strava Analytics is it worth $40 a year? Nope. I've only found two screens so far. Spent the day with my mother trading in my fathers car for something she could drive. The Ford Escape SEL turned out to be the winner. Almost got her to go for a BMW i3 (EV), but we were not quick enough as someone else had already purchased it.

In two days we have already racked up 45 miles on the Ultra Trail Mont Blanc route. Our seconds day of the Alps brought us from Les Contamines to the super fun Refugio Les Mottets. The highlights of the day for me was swimming in Lacs Jovet and partying with the other trail folks to a 200 year old hand turned organ. We had a big day running from Courmayeur, Italy to Switzerland. Unfortunately, Switzerland is super expensive and appears to have a lot of rules so we will not be staying long. We ran a full on ultra on our fourth day (32 miles) non-stop and after having two dinners and some elaborate deserts we are ready for some rest and an easy day. Five Tips for those planning on running around Mont Blanc. 1) 50k days with a recovery day aftewards would be ideal. Towns do not serve food between 2pm - 7pm so arriving in this window means you will starve. 2) Use a service like Mountain Dropoffs to carry your gear to each location so you can run light. 3) Take a Spa day in Courmayeur. Arrive early and spend all day kicking it in the dozens of facilities 4) Bring just enough things and no extras. Three days of run clothes and one comfortable outfit with sandals for walking town each evening. Anything more will incumber you trip. 5) Wear a shoe with some extra cushion. Yesterday afternoon a wave of energy hit me that I had not felt for several months. My diet, fasting and training has been very regimented this summer and it shows in the data. I've lost 7 lbs in the last six weeks. Basically just eggs, steak and salad plus my indulgences when in Europe. My heart rate variability has gone through roof reaching an all time high for me of 98. It used to rarely exceed 60. (higher is better) I'm still riding high on the energy and kind of hoping it lets up a little so I don't need to chug mangesium and phenibut all night. I did a little test to intentionally try and crash my system with whey and dairy. It showed right up on my heart rate variability as it dropped in half over 48 hours and my belly felt awful. The Garmin Vivactive 4 has introduced some helpful new biometrics that previously only existed in their highest end devices or not at all. Top: * Human Battery Charge overlayed with Stress - Note the human battery does not start to recharge until we are in a rested state. * SpO2 - Mine is surprisingly low and I suspect it is diet induced. I'm dropping into the upper 80's during the night, but I do not think it is sleep apnea. * Respiration - My breaths per minute tend to average 13 during the day and 12 at night.
