✅💪🏻 Better late than never! Just a little late night Monday grind... because wow, I have been in such a funk the last few days! 😝 It’s honestly been hard just to get out of bed. So, I’ve been taking it easy and giving my body some much needed rest and recovery (as much as I can being a busy trainer & toddler mama! 🐝) It’s so important to listen to your body, especially when it’s telling you that it’s time to slow down!!! But anyway, I finally got my butt up and moving this evening, and it felt sooo good to work up a healthy sweat! Recovery is part of the process. Fueling your body adequately (aka eating enough food) is essential. Learning to listen to your body and understand what it needs will become one of the most valuable skills you can acquire in terms of your health! It’s not always about checking everything off your list, or getting an intense workout in every day of the week, or eating clean 24/7. If you set unrealistic expectations for yourself, this will negatively impact both your progress and your mindset. So take it easy on yourself! On the days when you’re crushing it, be proud of yourself. On the days when you need a break, celebrate how far you’ve already come. It will always be important to take care of your health, but it’s also important to love yourself through every phase, at every age, and every stage. If you’re doing your best, that’s enough. . . . When I walked into the gym yesterday I had no plan, which is very unlike me... all I knew was that I wanted to deadlift, play around to see how my elbow felt, and get some core work in. So, here’s a bit of what happened based on that! ☺️ - Sometimes it makes me feel anxious to have no plan, and other times it turns out to be exactly what I needed. STRETCHING: (the part of the workout that most people tend to skip!) Self-care Sunday feels like a good time to talk about it. If I’m being honest, I have not been stretching enough lately...🙊 I can definitely feel the difference too. We all struggle to find balance sometimes, but good news is we can always get it back!☺️ - 🧘🏼‍♀️💕Routine stretching & mobility training makes a HUGE difference in the way our muscles respond to exercise! 💪🏻 If you want to prevent injury, perform more efficiently, and recover more quickly, (check, check, check) don’t neglect your mobility!!! - ⭐️ WHEN to stretch during a workout??👉🏻Well, it’s safer to stretch warm muscles, as they’re more relaxed / have greater range of motion. Beginning your workout with low intensity movement, such as brisk walking or light bodyweight exercises for 5 min (until heart rate is up or you break a light sweat) is a sufficient “warm-up” for stretching. Ideally, you should stretch a few min into your workout, and a few min after. Start with dynamic stretches (involving movement); end with static stretches (stationary, isolated holds). - ‼️Dynamic stretching is better prior to exercising to prepare your joints for movement & activate muscles for optimal performance. Static stretches are best for after exercise and should be held at least 30 sec per muscle group.⏰‼️ - ⭐️ HOW OFTEN to stretch?? Short answer: daily!😁👍🏻 If you’re very active it’s especially important to maintain flexibility & range of motion. For my clients, I recommend 10-15 min 2x daily light stretching, (usually morning & night) as well as at least one full 30-60 min session of mobility training per week. It’s important to really take the time and address all the areas of tension in your body! If you don't exercise regularly, you still want to stretch at least 3x a week to maintain flexibility. - Conclusion: Your body works hard. Give it some love.❤️ Hope this was helpful to some of you!
